Know before you go

  • Pick-up from the airport/railway station is at 2:00 PM. Drop-off on Day 5 is at 11:00 AM. Please inform the office if you need adjustments to these timings.
  • Please avoid consuming alcohol or intoxicants during the tour.
  • The vehicle is available only as per the itinerary and not at your disposal.
  • Flights to Dimapur can be expensive. Consider booking flights to Guwahati and taking a train to Dimapur for a more economical option.
  • No refunds for missed services or facilities.
  • Accommodations are in close proximity (200-400 meters) and your travel buddy will be available by phone for assistance.
  • Festival grounds are crowded with poor network connectivity, so follow your buddy's guidelines for evening pick-ups.
Itinerary

Day 1: Dimapur to Kohima (2 Hours)

Welcome to Nagaland, the land of festivals! Upon arrival at Dimapur Airport, you’ll be warmly greeted by your guide and taken on a scenic drive to Kohima, the vibrant capital of Nagaland. En route, explore local markets brimming with indigenous produce and traditional goods. As you approach Kohima, the temperature will drop, adding a refreshing chill to the air. After checking into your homestay and freshening up, enjoy a delicious dinner at your accommodation before settling in for the night.

Day 2: Hornbill Festival - Opening Ceremony

Start your day with a visit to local markets showcasing a variety of edible insects, organic vegetables, and traditional spices. Next, explore the meticulously maintained World War II Cemetery. Head to Kisama for the grand opening of the 25th Anniversary of the Hornbill Festival. Witness local cultural troupes in their finest traditional attire and marvel at the unique Morungs of various Naga tribes encircling the amphitheatre. Stroll around the village to appreciate the diverse architecture, dialects, and customs of each tribe. Enjoy a day filled with music, dance, and festive cheer at the Hornbill Festival, and browse the stalls for unique souvenirs. In the afternoon, visit Phesama village to interact with locals and delve deeper into their cultural practices. Return to Kohima for an overnight stay.

Day 3: Hornbill Festival and Kigwema Village

Begin your day with a visit to Kigwema village, known for its impressive wood carvings and historical significance during WWII. The village offers stunning views and a glimpse into traditional village life. Spend the rest of the day enjoying the Hornbill Festival, sampling more local delicacies at festival stalls. In the evening, join the vibrant night carnival in Kohima, where streets come alive with festive lights, Christmas decorations, and delicious street food.

Day 4: Kohima to Khonoma and Back

After breakfast, journey to Khonoma village, located 20 km from Kohima. As India’s first Green Village, Khonoma has designated a 27 sq km area as the Khonoma Nature Conservation and Tragopan Sanctuary. Here, you’ll experience a harmonious blend of culture, history, and nature. After exploring, return to Kohima for your overnight stay.

Day 5: Kohima to Dimapur (74 km/2½ Hours)

Bid farewell to the enchanting Naga hills as you travel back to Dimapur for your onward flight.
